Know Your Poker Card CombinationsIn a game of poker, there are various card combinations or what one would call "hands" that can give a player the edge over his opponents or bring about his downfall. People that are new to the poker game must remember that a poker hand always contains five cards. Various poker hands would include the Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, the Full house, the Flush, the Straight, Three of a kind, Two Pair, One Pair, and the High Card. The hands are oftentimes ranked in an order that they are due to the relative probability of them being dealt to players. Of course, it is natural for the rarer and more infrequent hands to have a higher ranking as compared to the more common hands. And so, let us discuss the aforementioned poker hand types. Straight flush: This is a poker hand that would possess five cards that are in a sequence and from the same suit. For example, one may have a straight flush, if he possesses the Queen of Hearts, Jack of Hearts, Ten of Hearts, Nine of Hearts, and Eight of Hearts. That is a straight flush! If one possesses a flush that contains an Ace, then that is also called a royal flush and is one of the highest in rank to be found in a standard hand of poker. Four of a Kind: Is also called Quads. This is usually a poker hand that contains four cards that are of the same rank of different suits and one card that is unmatched. This type of hand has a higher ranking than a straight flush or a full house. Full House: This type of poker hand is also called a boat or full boat. Usually, this hand would have three cards of the same ranking and another two cards of the same ranking. Flush: A flush is the type of poker hand that has five cards from the same suit that are not in any particular sequence or order. This normally ranks higher than a straight and ranks under a full house. Straight: A poker hand that is of consecutive ascending order of five cards is called a Straight. It does not matter what suits they have. Three of a kind: Is a poker hand that is also known as strips which has three cards with the same ranking and two cards that are not matched. Two Pair: This type of poker hand has two pairs of cards wherein one pair is of the same rank, and the other pair is also of the same rank, plus one unmatched card. One Pair: This poker hand would possess only one pair of cards of the same rank whereas the rest are unmatched. High Card: This type of hand has no pair and no two cards are of the same rank, nor are they in sequence. Usually, this is referred to as "garbage".
